Tour Itinerary

  • Day 1: CUSCO

Day at leisure in Cusco. It is important to acclimatize to the altitude (3400m above sea level) before beginning the more strenuous parts of the tour. Depending on your arrival time, you will visit the ruins of Saqsaywaman, the museum of Koricancha and other notable parts of the historical city center, where you can see a mixture of colonial and Inca architecture

Max altitude: around 3400 m above sea level

Depart Cusco at 5:30am by private transfer from your hotel. Journey time of 30 minutes.

At 6am we begin our trek to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Roughy half of the trail we follow on this day takes us along original paths used by citizens of the Inca Empire, and is a great crowd-free alternative to the mainstream Inca Trail. We will pass little-visited Inca ruins at Huchuy Qosqo before reaching a viewpoint from which we will have a beautiful view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas spread out below us. Walking down from this point we will reach the small village of Lares where we will spend the night. Lares is a beautiful town home to some natural hot springs where you will have the chance to freshen up the next morning!

Today is a long day of walking, and we can expect to reach Lares at 8pm. We will eat dinner in a local restaurant and spend the night camping close to the town.

NOTE: Today´s trail is difficult, especially in the last part which involves 1 hour of steep descent. You will not need to carry with you except for your water and snacks in a small day pack. All other items we brought for you to the Sacred Valley at the end of the trek. There is a possibility to hire a porter and horse for the trek, if you would prefer – please enquire at the time of booking.

    Trekking time: 8 – 9 hours
    Max altitude: 4250 m

On day 3 our trek takes us through very different landscapes and communities than those we will have already experienced! En route from Lares to Patacancha Valley we can expect to see quanit Andean communities, locals dressed in traditional, bright fabrics as well as herds of llamas and beautiful scenery.

Departure from Lares Base Camp at 6:45am (or earlier, if you would prefer more time in the hot springs).

Arrival in Patacancha Valley at 5:30pm

Upon arrival in Patacancha you will meet the family who will be hosting you for the night. Andean hospitality is unique, and you will be invited to join the family for a traditional meal.

    Trekking time: 8-9 hours
    Max altitude: 4500 m

On Day 4 our trek is much shorter but no less spectacular!

We will depart Patacancha Valley at 8am (or earlier, if you would like to spend more time in local hot springs) and travel 45 minutes by car to the trailhead.

During our trek we will pass pre-inca ruins at Pumamarca, before reaching the beautiufl town of Ollantaytambo – a real gem of the Sacred Valley – where we will spend time exploring Inca relics with a guided tour.

From Ollantaytambo our private transport will pick us up and drive us to The Sky Lodge, where we should arrive by 4pm. In the afternoon there will be plenty of time to enjoy the activities that the lodge has to offer, including zip lining and rock climbing!

Trekking time: 5-6 hours + 1 hour walking in the Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo
    Max altitude: 3700 m

Day 5 sees us trekking through the high jungle, experiencing a completely different climate and even landscape and demonstrating just how diverse Peru really is!

    Depart from Ollantaytambo at 5:30am.

Today´s trek is divided into three parts. The first and most beautiful section takes us along part of the Inca Trail, while the second and third sections take us through altitudes of 4320m and hidden Inca ruins. By the end of the day we will have descended to 1200m, before we arrive at Aguas Calientes.

Arrive Aguas Calientes 6pm, possibility to visit the town´s hot springs.

    Trekking time: 8 hours
    Max altitude: 4320 m

During this day you will have possibility to explore Machu Picchu from many diferent points. Inside the ruins there are many options available to you. You can hike one of the two small peaks, Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, or walk to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) and/or Inca bridge.

You will start the tour from Aguas Calientes where, early in the morning, you will take a bus or walk up the hill to the entrance of Machu Picchu. In the ruins you will have a guided tour lasting approximtely 2 hours, after which you will have time to explore and discover the ancient city independently. You are welcome to stay in Machu Picchu until 5 pm, after which you will make your own way back to Aguas Calientes by bus or walking.

We will take the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, where our private transfer will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.
    Arrive Cusco 10:30pm.

Leaving at 4:45am we will go by private car to the region of Ausangate where we will start our one-day trek to Ausangate´s 7 lakes. En route we will stop for a Peruvian breakfast!

The trek takes around 7-8 hours through the spectacular Ausangate region where you will encounter herds of alpaca and incredible views of snow-capped peaks, including Mount Ausangate – the highest peak in the Cusco region. At this point we will be at an altitude of 4700m – the highest point of our trek!

Today´s lunch will be enjoyed in one of the most impressive parts of the trail, from where we will have amazing views of the peaks of the Cordillera Vilcanota.

Finishing the trek at 4pm, we will be collected by our private transport and driven a further 5 hours to our hostel.

Arrive at the hostel at 9pm. Dinner and rest.

    Trekking time: 7-8 hours
    Max altitude: 4800 m

Today takes us to the incredibly beautiful Rainbow Mountain, departing our hostel at 4:45am.

The trek to the mountain is tough but beautiful, and takes us up to an impressive 5000m above sea level! At this point, you will be fully acclimatized to the altitude and should be able to relax and enjoy the fantastic views.

Our private transport will take us back to Cusco in the evening, where you will have time to relax in your hotel or explore Cusco´s nightlife.

Trekking time: around 6 hours in total
Max altitude: around 5000 m above sea level

  • Day 9: CUSCO

Depending on your departure time from Cusco (all onward travel organised independently) you will have time to visit some more of the city´s sites, browse the artesenal markets or even stop for a very traditional lunch at the Mercado San Pedro!

If you would like to extend your time with us and visit Lake Titicaca, Puno region, the Colca Canyon or any other spots in South Peru then please let us know!

For Machu Picchu, there is a discount of USD$20 for students who send us a scanned copy of their ISIC card via email during the booking process and who then bring the original, valid ISIC card with them for the trip (without a valid ISIC card, you would not only lose the discount but also the possibility to explore the ruins since you would not get permission to entrance).
